MARRIAGE AND MOTHERHOOD

Shortly before India achieved independence, Nirmala Salve married C.P. Srivastava. He was a civil servant distinguished by his integrity and honesty. When Lal Bahadur Shastri became Prime Minister of India in 1964, he asked Mr. Srivastava to be his personal secretary.

Mr. Srivastava was Secretary General of the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) for 16 years (1974 to 1989). The IMO headquarters are in London, England, so the Srivastavas moved to London in 1974. Mrs. Nirmala Srivastava endeared herself to diplomats and heads of state all over the world with her kindness and graciousness.
